Coloring Your World Through Home Décor

Greens, yellows, blues, oranges, and even purples and pinks are the current “It Colors” for 2017 home décor. While classic white and neutrals are still popular, many interior designers suggest adding interesting color accents to incite certain moods throughout your living spaces.

In our experience at Walt Danley Realty, we agree that choosing particular colors for your home décor is critical when setting the overall tone of your home. In our business, first impressions are imperative. We walk through many homes and have seen for ourselves how colors affect our moods and those of potential buyers.

As a homeowner, whether you are selling your home and want to appeal to buyers or are in search of ways to make your home feel more appealing to you and your family, making the right color choices does have a definite impact. Here are some thoughts to consider about today’s most popular home decor color trends.

Warm and Inviting

Color trends come and go, but those that invoke welcoming feelings are always, well… welcomed!

  • Yellow, of course, is one of the top choices in this category. But, depending on the hue, the mood that yellow brings to a home can be very different. Bright and light yellows create a happy and cheerful vibe. A deeper, mustard shade offers a cozier feel.
  • Orange is very popular as you can pair it with so many colors. While some may remember the oranges of the 1970s, this citrus shade takes on a whole new glow when combined with neutrals like navy or teal.
  • Red is bold and powerful. As such, it should be used sparingly on walls. However, pops of red make a room alive with energy and give a family room or dining room just the right stimulus for conversation and connection.

Cool and Relaxing

Home is a place to unwind and wash away our cares. Cool colors are just the trick to help when relaxation is in order.

  • Blue is the epitome of cool. Calm and tranquil, any shade of blue can help to create a zen state of mind. This is one reason why blues are perfect for bedrooms and bathrooms. But, blue is also associated with intelligence and productivity, making it an ideal color for a home office or child’s study room.
  • Green…the color of nature. Like blue, green helps to relieve stress and tension. Green is also a refreshing color that is both serene and invigorating. As such, this natural color can really work in any room and with many coordinating colors.
  • Purple might seem like an unusual choice, but it is a color that interior designers love to work with. It has it’s own sense of style that is both classic and on point. Whether you choose lavender or amethyst shades to accent your home, you are certain to appreciate the beauty of this regal color.

In a Class By Itself…

Pink. Yes, we said Pink. Believe it or not, pink has been making its way back into home décor thanks to its popularity with millennials. In fact, the more recognized name for softer shades that resemble dusty rose or rose quartz are now commonly referred to as Millennial Pink. And to prove the point of it’s popularity, pink was named color of the year by Pantone in 2015, and it is now showing up in bathrooms and on furniture and appliances. But, other than being all that with the generation that seems to be defining everything these days, pink actually has other redeeming qualities. According to a study from the late 1960s, pink is known as a color that affects muscle tone. The study also noted that a particular shade, called Baker-Miller pink, lowered heart rate, pulse, and respiration when gazing at it after exercise.
